Madame Tussauds gets some cricket based competition

This time I’ll try to bat 50 overs if I can.

Virender Sehwag’s aim for the coming ODI World Cup is to bat fifty overs. Fifty overs in the whole tournament, really that many! Don’t overstretch yourself there Virender.

Cricinfo: Batting long is Virender Sehwag’s aim

Batting milestones came all at once, during the 1st test between South Africa and India.

The quickest test century by a South African from de Villiers, the top order set it up but de Villiers dealt a devastating blow to India that made the South African dominance of the first three days not just comprehensive but cruel, during the afternoon session on the third day South Africa scored at six an over.

Jacques Kallis so often the grinding backbone of the South African batting lineup scored his first double century. A surprising statistic really but in this innings he deserved all the plaudits dominating the spinners which Indian so often rely on and taking a lacklustre pace attack to the cleaners.

Dravid reached 12,000 test match runs as India started their rearguard action to save the test match, no better man for a fight than Dravid.

Sachin Tendulkar saved the best to last as in partnership with Dhoni he took the attack to South Africa and reached his fiftieth century in test match cricket. The first man to do so, an amazing statistic, and one that may never be matched.

Tendulkar apparently has more Test runs than entire New Zealand team but check out this stat: Kallis has more Test runs, more Test wickets and more catches than the Pakistani team

CricInfo - Text Commentary.

And Sunil Gavaskar also commented that, the total career aggregate runs of the Indian team playing against New Zealand, is about 50K, this is first time ever in history of cricket…

India’s recent success is built on great experience, but what happens when those players retire? They have to be careful that they don’t emulate the Australian decline in the next 5 years

Sachin Tendulkar at 14,000 Test Runs:
Sachin Tendulkar hitting the ball through the covers for two runs on the second day of the Bangalore test against Australia, 2010. This brings up a record 14,000 test runs. He went on to score a double century in the innings. Later, he scored the winning runs and saw India home to a series win. Sachin was adjudicated Man of the Match and Man of the Series.

Things we have learnt from India vs Australia

1. England are better than Australia - the rankings prove it. Not only do England hold all the bragging rights in Twenty20, ODI series, and Ashes tests; they hold the weighted rankings title too.

2. Sachin Tendulkar is still Awesome - did you ever doubt it? He produced a crucial innings which turned the series decisively towards India

3. Shane Watson is a proper test batsman and opener - we all doubted him but there is now no question that he can produce the goods, even in the most trying circumstances for his team has been successful. I look forward to some more quality innings in a rear guard action during the Ashes.

4. Even Punter is not quite sure about Hauritz as a frontline spinner - I thought poor old Nathan had established himself, but after a questionable performance in the spin paradise of India, questions must be asked.

5. Home advantage is all important - India knew when and how to strike during these test matches, so don’t go writing off Australia in the Ashes just yet, wait until they are at least 2-0 down.
